Inspiring the people of South Durham County, North Carolina to take responsibility for Earth

Welcome!

South Durham Green Neighbors (SDGN) is an all-volunteer community group organized in July 2010  to inspire individuals in Durham County (North Carolina) to take responsibility for Earth via small group dialogue and discussion groups.

In our first year, SDGN has sponsored more than 15 small group discussion courses in Triangle area libraries, faith centers and work places with more than 100 participants.

Building A Sustainable Community  — One Group at a Time

SDGN works to connect interested Triangle residents with like-minded folks in a small group setting to increase their knowledge of the North Carolina Piedmont bioregion, build community relationships that support more sustainable choices and foster connectedness to the Earth.

SDGN is a National Network Partner of the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) based in Portland, Oregon — and for most of our programs, we use the well-regarded NWEI course materials with excerpts of personal essays and academic writings by contemporary sustainability leaders like Duane Elgin, Wendell Berry, Jay Walljasper, Bill McKibben, Janet Luhrs, Paul Hawken, William McDonough and Vicki Robin – to name just a few.

Worldwide, more than 140,000 adults in all 50 United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand have taken an NWEI small group discussion course since 1993.
